When the time comes to replace your motorcycle battery, there are a few options on the market, including high-performance motorcycle batteries. Using the best battery can help the overall performance of your bike and will get the most life out of the battery itself.

Why you should install a high-performance motorcycle battery

High-performance batteries provide up to 30% more cranking amps, perfect for when you add amplifiers and subwoofers. Stock batteries are only meant to store enough power for the stock components. Whenever you start adding additional amplifiers, your factory battery will be unable to store enough juice to power everything. These batteries are also maintenance-free and are known to have longer lifespans than conventional motorcycle batteries.

Note: It is important to understand that batteries do not create power, they only store it. At a certain point, you may also need to upgrade your alternator to prevent draining your battery too quickly or have other issues like dimming headlights.

How to install a high-performance motorcycle battery

1. Find the correct replacement battery for your motorcycle

To ensure the proper fit, search for the correct replacement battery size for your particular make and model. Although some high-performance batteries universally fit, you do not want to purchase a battery that will not work with your bike.

2. Remove the old battery and replace with the new battery

First, you will need to remove the existing battery. Remove your seat to access the battery and disconnect the negative terminal followed by the positive terminal. If needed, clean the battery cables and components to remove any corrosion.

Next, set the high-performance battery in place and secure it with the existing strap. Securely connect the positive cable to the positive terminal and the negative cable to the negative terminal. Tighten the bolts or screws to finish up.

3. Test the battery and replace the seat

Now that the battery is installed, test it out by starting the motorcycle. If there are any issues with the electronics or the bike starting, now is the time to troubleshoot. Once you have the bike, stereo, and lights are working properly, replace and fasten the seat.

As you can see, replacing your existing battery with a high-performance motorcycle battery is an easy process. The benefits that the high-performance batteries provide are well worth the additional steps and can be done safely using the above directions. Now get out there and enjoy that increased power and longer battery lifespan!

As with cars and trucks, speakers need a boost of power in order to improve the speaker volume and audio quality. Especially true when riding a motorcycle, with a loud engine and wind in your face, adding a solid motorcycle amplifier can make a world of difference. With that being said, follow these steps to install an amplifier on your own motorcycle.

Required Tools (may vary depending on motorcycle or installation needs):

Screwdrivers

Wire Cutters

Wire Crimper and Stripper

Electrical Tape

Zip Ties

Amplifier Wiring Kit

1. Choose a Motorcycle Amplifier

Make sure to purchase an amplifier that is meant for motorcycles. These amplifiers will not strain your battery because they are manufactured to run at low load levels. They also are able to fit in tighter spaces due to their smaller compact chassis sizes. Many of these amplifiers use materials that are built to withstand vibrations and outdoor elements.

When browsing our motorcycle amplifiers, be sure to also consider the power rating. This rating should be the same or very similar to the requirement of your particular bike for best performance. Lastly, determine where you plan on installing the amp to narrow down your choices.

NVX VADM4

2.Disconnect the Battery’s Negative Cable

To keep yourself and your electronics safe, it is always advised to disconnect the negative battery cable before beginning. Remove your seat to access the battery and unscrew or unbolt the negative cable from the terminal post. Doing so will prevent shorts, shocks, and other unwanted issues.

3. Mount the Amplifier

Depending on where you decide to mount the amplifier, you will need to gain access to that location. Many choose to mount the amp next to or on top of the stereo. In that case, the windshield and/or outer fairing will need to be removed to gain access to that area. If mounting under your seat, remove the seat to get started.

Next, you will want to mount the amplifier using a mount plate bracket, zip ties, or similar hardware. Be sure that you have access to all necessary wiring before securing tightly.

4. Connect and Wire the Amplifier to the Stereo, Ground, and Battery

With the new amplifier in the correct location, you are now ready to wire the amplifier to the necessary components. As with any amplifier, the remote power and any RCA cables will run to the stereo receiver, the power wire will run to the positive terminal of the battery, and the ground wire to a grounding point. Always refer to your particular amplifier’s instructions for a wiring diagram to follow.

5. Test out the Amplifier

Before you finish up, it is always a good idea to test everything out. Connect the battery and test out the stereo, speakers, and amplifier controls. Ensure that all components are working as expected. If not, now is the time to troubleshoot and make any changes or adjustments as needed.

6. Reassemble and Clean Up the Installation

Now, clean up all wiring using zip ties and run all wiring so that it will not be seen. Reassemble the outer fairing, seat, and any other parts that were removed (be sure not to crimp or pull any wires). Test out your handlebar steering by turning the front wheel to the far left and far right to ensure wiring has not caused any issues.

By following the above motorcycle amplifier installation steps, along with your amplifier’s directions, you can have your amp installed in a few hours. Once completed, you can start enjoying a more powerful, crisp, and clear audio experience when cruising around. If you missed it, also be sure to check out our other motorcycle how to articles about installing replacement stereos or upgrading your speakers.

For those of you that cruise and commute on your motorcycle, there may come a day and time that the factory or existing stereo needs to be replaced. A new stereo is a great starting point for making your audio and overall riding more enjoyable. So, where do you start? In this article, we will take a look at the steps required to install a replacement motorcycle stereo along with a few helpful tips as well.

Keep in mind, all motorcycle makes and models vary so you may need to make a few slight adjustments when necessary.

Required Tools (may vary depending on the motorcycle or installation needs):

Drill or Screwdrivers

Socket Wrench

Wire Cutters

Wire Crimper and Stripper

Electrical Tape

PAC HDK001X Radio Replacement Kit for 1998-2013 Harley-Davidson Motorcycles

1. Find the correct stereo and installation accessories for your bike

Since your motorcycle is exposed to natural elements like rain and direct sun, it is not a wise choice to install any old stereo. Browse our motorcycle stereos to find receivers that have coated circuit boards, UV resistant coating, and other features that will keep your stereo in great condition.

In addition to finding a motorcycle stereo, you also need to determine the correct fit for your particular needs. Some bikes already have single din head units installed from the factory so you may just be able to replace it with another single din stereo with little to no modification. However, if you are replacing a factory stereo that doesn’t use a typical Single or Double DIN housing, like on a Harley Davidson Road Glide for example, then you will need an installation kit so an aftermarket stereo will be able to fit properly. You will also need a wiring harness to be able to attach your new stereo to the existing wiring.

2. Disconnect the Battery’s Negative Cable

To keep yourself and your electronics safe, it is always advised to disconnect the negative battery cable before beginning. Remove your seat to access the battery and unscrew or unbolt the negative cable from the terminal post. Doing so will prevent shorts, shocks, and other unwanted issues.

3. Remove the outer fairing and remove your old motorcycle stereo

Next, you will need to access your existing stereo so it can be removed. Depending on the type of motorcycle you have, you may need to remove the windshield and will have to remove the outer fairing. Refer to your specific make and model’s manual or instructions if you need assistance doing so. Once removed, you should have clear visibility and access to the stereo and wiring. Next, Carefully disconnect the wiring from the back of the existing stereo. Finally, find the few bolts that are holding the stereo in place and remove those to free the stereo completely.

4. Connect the matching wires to your stereo adapter harness

A wiring harness allows you to easily take the existing wires and connect them to the harness so it can then be connected to your new aftermarket stereo. These harnesses are made specific to your motorcycle so all of the wires will be color coated to match the existing wiring. Simply connect the wires together via a butt connector or if you are looking for a more permanent fix, you can also solder the wires together.

JVC KD-R97MBS Marine & Powersports Radio

5. Install the motorcycle stereo and test

Now that the old unit is out, it is time to install the new stereo receiver. First, you will want to install your new installation kit by using the hardware that is included with the kit. Now slide the stereo snuggly in place, bolt everything together, and plug your adapter harness into the back of the unit. Before buttoning things back up, it is a good idea to connect the battery again so you can test that the stereo is functioning correctly. Make sure the unit powers on and that the audio is heard through the speakers. Test the features thoroughly and once satisfied proceed with the final step.

6. Reassemble the Fairing and Seat

Replace the fairing and windshield if applicable. Bolt-on your seat to finalize the install and re-inspect your project. If all looks good you are ready to hop on and enjoy a ride with your new stereo.

As you can see, replacing a motorcycle stereo can be done relatively quickly as long as the proper preparation is taken and the correct installation accessories are purchased.

There is nothing like the sound of your motorcycle engine as you cruise around your city or town. However, having a nice tune to go along with your ride is always a bonus. Over the years the options for motorcycle audio have expanded to include similar components that you would find in any car or truck, making it easier than ever to have a great audio system in your motorcycle.

Here are 5 fast facts about motorcycle audio for you to keep in mind:

1. Motorcycle audio components are very similar to car audio components

If they make it for a car or truck, there is a good chance you can find a similar component for your motorcycle audio. For example, we carry options from stereos to speakers, to amplifiers and so much more for your ride.

Obviously, the size and power output will in many cases be smaller or lower as a motorcycle has much less room to work with; however, the same rules apply as in car audio. You will need a source unit like a stereo, you will also need speakers and an amplifier to power them, and you will need the proper wiring to bring everything together. In addition, all components should be made to withstand the elements as motorcycles do not protect them from the sun, rain, wind and other natural factors.

2. There are many motorcycle-specific options available

Many people do not want to invest the time or the money to do custom audio fabrication, like spending hours to make speaker enclosures made of fiberglass. One amazing alternative is buying vehicle specific kits made for your motorcycle. These kits come with everything you will need to upgrade your audio system. They include the speakers the adapters and even the grilles. This takes all of the headache out of the entire experience. Visit our website to see if we have a kit made for your ride!

JBL Cruise

3. Handlebar speakers are a great option for many riders

If your bike does not come stocked any speakers from the factory and you don’t have any saddlebags you could customize, one option you should consider is handlebar speakers. Speakers like the JBL Cruise are a great option because they are water-resistant, they have a built-in amplifier, and they are Bluetooth compatible. All you have to do is mount them, connect them to your power supply, and you are ready to wirelessly connect them to your device so you can start riding.

4. You need to consider what type of audio source you are going to use

One important decision you need to make is what type of audio source you are going to use. Are you going to install an entire Single Din stereo or are you going to go for something smaller like a Bluetooth remote like the NVX XUBT3. Single Din stereos are a great option for someone who wants features like FM radio or Sirius Satelite radio as well as Bluetooth. You also get the advantage of not having to purchase an additional amplifier because these units come with one built-in; However, if you don’t have any saddlebags or any other existing place to put your stereo, you will more than likely have to do some custom installation. Bluetooth remote controls take up much less space and the custom fabrication will be very minimal. If you are just looking for a way to stream music wirelessly, this is probably the way to go. If you choose that option, you will need to buy an amplifier to actually power your speakers on your motorcycle.

If you are a motorcycle owner, you probably desire getting great sound off of your bike. After all, who doesn’t enjoy listening to excellent sounding tunes while they ride? In order to achieve this, a motorcycle amp is extremely important in order to power your bike’s system – and therefore ensuring optimum sound on the road. In addition, these powerful motorcycle amps are also excellent for ATV and UTV applications. No matter what powersport audio install you need an amplifier for, these amps are perfect for a few different reasons.

Incredibly Small Housing

Whether you are looking to improve the sound system on your motorcycle, ATV, or UTV, these vehicles don’t have much space for an amplifier. With motorcycles, you most likely will have two placement options for installing an amplifier – in either of the saddlebags or behind the fairing. Both of these spots give very little space for an amplifier. Therefore, you will need an amp that is extremely small in size such as the NVX MVPA1 and MVPA4. Both of the MPVA series amplifiers have enough power for your motorcycle, ATV or UTV sound system and are only a little bit bigger than an iPhone.

More than Enough Power

Even though these powersport amplifiers are extremely small in size, they have more than enough power for your sound system. Whether you’re looking to improve your audio system with subwoofers or speakers, you can be sure that these amplifiers will be able to power your entire sound system.

Special Materials

Most of these amps are specially designed with special materials that can withstand the vibrations and elemental exposure. In addition, many of these amps are waterproof, dust-proof, or weather-proof, ensuring that they will hold up to any conditions you will be riding in.
