To top it off, there is a car stereo with wireless app control and a convenient custom iPad mount in the trunk strategically located with the subs and amps.

This would be quite a car to own.

Early each year we send a team of people out to CES in Las Vegas to capture the best of new technologies in car audio. This year many companies have heavily evolved their car stereo lines to include some of the latest technologies in playing digital media. Big name brands such as Alpine, Pioneer, Kenwood, JVC and even newcomers such as Lightning Audio are stepping it up in the world of car audio, and here’s a glimpse from CES 2013 of what you can look forward to in the near future.

Kenwood’s 2013 multimedia radios and stereos with Bluetooth technology will be able to take control of Siri. The receiver’s Bluetooth Microphone will allow hands-free communication with Siri, making it easier to control your Apple iPhone while out on the road.

Clarion is now one of the first car audio manufacturers to produce an HDMI compatible receiver. This technology will allow you to mirror the display of an Android device to the stereo’s display, giving you full control of Apps and communication with others.

Pioneer is well known for their intuitive interfacing of Apple iPod and iPhone devices, and now the 2013 multimedia receivers will support audio and video from the iPhone 5. The App Radio 2 will be able to display and control Apps that are already installed on the iPhone.

Alpine has introduced a whole new kind of stereo, offering Facebook alerts. When you connect your compatible phone, a blue LED glass light will start blinking when you receive a Facebook message, wall post, friend request and more. There is also an Alpine TuneIt App to assist with adjusting the equalizer to your vehicle’s acoustic environment.

JVC Mobile is stepping it up by including the MirrorLink application on three different head-units. MirrorLink mirrors the display of your smartphone and gives you complete control over many of its functions without ever having to touch the device.

There are many new technologies and innovations here at CES 2013, so continue to check back for coverage on the latest car audio, video and GPS devices and accessories. Let us know in the comments section below what brands you would like to see!

The Next Generation

It seems like every year there’s always something new that people buzz about. In regards to televisions, new technologies are always on the rise. Just look at the past decade: We’ve gone from tube TV’s to the emergence of projector TV’s and then finally flat screen TV’s such as Plasma, LCD, and the newer LED. Not to mention the now-standard HDMI which has drastically increased picture quality. It was just a matter of time before the next big thing hit the market and it’s going to make television displays all the better.

CEA (Consumer Electronics Association) has announced the next generation of home displays. Naming them Ultra HD (also known as 4k resolution), these new displays will have more than eight million pixels of resolution which is more than 4 times the amount in current HDTVs. What does this mean for the consumer? It means that you’re going to look at your television screen and mistake it for an actual window. That’s how fantastic these things are going to look and that’s how revolutionary this new technology is going to be. CEA has designated these displays to have an aspect ratio of at least 16×9 and a digital input cable of handling 4k video instead of up-converting.

The first companies to unveil these spectacular displays are LG and Sony which will both release an 84-inch set this fall. However, as with every new technological gadget, it’s going to have a pretty steep price tag of $20,000 for the LG 84LM9600 and $25,000 for the Sony XBR-84X900. If you can afford it by all means, go for it you won’t be disappointed. For the rest of us, we might have to wait a few years until the price will drop and become more common on the market place. CEA has guaranteed that the Ultra HD technology will be a highlight of the 2013 International Consumer Electronics show in Las Vegas January 8-11.

Members of the SonicElectronix.com’s press and media team had the opportunity to attend the 2009 CES tradeshow in Las Vegas. CES is the Consumer Electronics Show and is produced by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). Each year at CES, new technology and products are introduced to those in attendance. As we went from booth to booth to check out all the new stuff, we were quite impressed with all the new products that will be coming out this year. In this article, we will touch on some of the highlights in the in-vehicle section of CES.

Some of the main highlights that we saw came from the JVC, KICKER, and DLS booths. Each had new products to boast and be proud of. For JVC, the AVX77 continues the El Kameleon line of single DIN AV head units. It features a fully customizable wide touchscreen display that takes up the entire space of the unit. It deserved the CES Best of Innovations award that it was given. Excited for the New Year, KICKER introduced the Solo Classic subwoofer line, two new component speaker systems, headphones, and more! The Solo Classic subs go back to an older design, but take a step forward with the technology that powers these bad boys. The QS and RS component systems are a step up from the KS series and sound superb. The QS series will also be replacing the SS series from KICKER. The KICKER headphones made a huge wave at CES and impressed anyone and everyone that listened to them. Over at the DLS booth, we were able to see and hear the impeccable DLS component speakers and amplifiers. First-class engineering was apparent when we heard these Swedish speakers come alive.

Overall, 2009 will be a great year for the mobile electronics industry. From what SonicElectronix.com saw at the show, great things are coming to a car near you. MaxxSonics has redesigned and improved their Hifonics amplifiers. JL Audio releases even more quality auto speakers and subwoofers. The Pioneer and Premier lines from Pioneer are raising the bar and setting the standard for receiver expandability. Dual’s huge line up of head-units and receivers amazed those that entered the Dual booth. Kenwood released many new products for both the car and the boat. MTX continued to show off their subs and amps, as well as showcasing the enormous square Jackhammer subwoofer. Look forward to all the new products that will be released this year. You will not be disappointed.
